Cost Element Group is an organizational unit storing a group of cost elements. Any number of cost element groups can be defined as part of master data maintenance for valuation, planning and allocation purposes in Cost Element Accounting or Cost Center Accounting.

Primary Cost elements are cost carriers from Financial Accounting (FI) to Controlling (CO) module and created to compare the G/L accounts of profit loss statements. A Primary Cost element is used to transfer cost from Financial Accounting (FI) to Controlling (CO) Module.
The components of the Controlling(CO) Module –
Controlling Area is an Organizational unit in an organization. It represents as a closed system used for cost accounting purposes. A controlling area may contain one or more company codes, which can operate in different currencies.
Numbers that refer to business objects of the same type are assigned in Area. One or more number range intervals are specified for each number range in addition to the type of number assignment. There are two types of number assignment:
Versions in Controlling (CO) are time dependent or year dependent. Maintain Versions used to create independent data groupings in planning and in actual. In planning, versions display alternative plan scenarios based on different planning assumptions.
After Controlling Area created successfully, the company codes should be assigned to controlling area. The company codes should have the same Fiscal Year variant and Chart of Accounts which are used while creating Controlling Area.
Controlling Area should be activated to apply the changes to its sub modules as well as company codes assigned. Before proceeding activation, the Controlling area should be created and the company code(s) assigned to the controlling Area.
The currency and valuation profile used to decide which valuation approaches uses to manage in the system. The system can be managed by a maximum of three valuation approaches in two currencies in parallel.
Once the currency and valuation profile is defined, it must be assigned to a controlling area. Below process is to assign currency and valuation profile TCVP (Test Currency and Valuation Profile) to Controlling Area TCCA (Test Controlling Area).
